Comparing two-factor authentication methods

Avoid getting locked out - set up an additional 2FA method

Give yourself options by setting up both app and SMS 2FA. Here's all the details.

There are three ways you can get your two-factor authentication (2FA) codes:

  • via an authenticator app (recommended) on a mobile device (phone, tablet, etc.) – your 2FA code displays in the app

  • via SMS your 2FA code is sent to your mobile phone via text message

  • via email – the code is sent to the email address linked to your MYOB account. Only available if you set it up when you first set up 2FA.

  • Authenticator apps are the easiest and most secure 2FA method for most people.

  • An authenticator app is an app that you install on your phone or tablet which generates a secure authentication code which you'll need to sign in to your MYOB account. You don't need internet access to use an authenticator app, but you do need access to the device each time you're prompted for a 2FA code.

  • On Android and Apple devices, use the Google Authenticator app. On a Windows device, use the Microsoft Authenticator app.

  • Give yourself more sign-in options by <link>setting up additional 2FA methods<link> – this will get you out of trouble if you don't have access to your authenticator app

  • You can also save a single use recovery code as a backup 2FA method.

Use SMS

  • It's quick and easy to set up

  • It's more secure than email 2FA

  • It includes a “Smart Remember Me” option built-in, which means you won't be prompted to provide a code every time you sign in to MYOB.

  • Give yourself more sign-in options by setting up additional 2FA methods – this will get you out of trouble if you don't have access to your mobile device

  • You can also save a single use recovery code as a backup 2FA method.

Use email

  • Can only be set up the first time you set up 2FA.

  • Can be used if you don't have a smartphone or other mobile device.

  • When you sign in to MYOB, your 2FA codes are emailed to your sign-in email address.

  • You'll always need internet access to get your emailed 2FA codes.

  • If you're set up for email 2FA, give yourself more sign-in options by setting up additional 2FA methods. This will get you out of trouble if you can't access your emails.
